On 29 October 1763 Pontiac was ordered by the French to surrender.

On 1 November post commander Major Henry Gladwin wrote General Amherst. “They have lost between 80 and 90 of their best warriors; but if your Excellency still intends to punish them further for their barbarities, it may be easily done without any expense to the Crown by permitting a free sale of rum, which will destroy them more effectually than fire and sword.”

On 18 April 1765 Pontiac accepted the English as his brothers.
